Rutilated quartz is a variety in which long needle-like formations are created within the stone, creating a very appealing visual effect. Rutilated quartz is named because of the most common redish hue the formations will have within the stone. “Rutile” originates from the Latin word “rutilus”, meaning the color red. While most minerals having rutile produce a redish color, the formations in quartz can sometimes be brown or grayish in color as well.

Rutilated quartz is also credited for having spiritual and healing properties. It is said to help people overcome depression and sadness as well as the ability to bring people closer together in its presence.

The most interesting aspect of rutilated quartz in comparison to other stones is how its value is measured. Whereas most stones’ value is measured by how little inclusions and flaws it has, rutilated quartz is virtually the opposite. The more rutiles the quartz has, the more valuable and visually appealing it becomes to the owner. In the same fashion, rutilated quartz is special because every stone is unique and has its own individual characteristics. Not one stone can be matched with another at any point in time, therefore when owning rutilated quartz, you can be assured that you own a one of a kind piece.

Come check out these new rutilated quartz pieces that just arrived at Kevin Main Jewelry!

Here at Kevin Main Jewelry, trading in gold for cash or store credit is a common transaction amongst our customers, especially at a time of such high gold prices. If you are considering trading in your gold, and would like a quick estimate of what your gold may be worth, following these easy steps will give you an idea before bringing it in!

1. Look up the current gold prices on kitco.com. The gold prices are listed in ounces.

*prices change daily. Look on left column of kitco to find this chart.

2. Convert ounces to grams
Divide the gold price by 31 to convert to grams

3. Find Gold Quality

The stamp on your jewelry will signify what you purity level is. Use the corresponding multiple in the table below to calculate your value.

Multiply the number from the calculation on step 2 with the multiple value in the chart above.

4. Weigh your jewelry

The easiest way to do this is to use a baking scale. Set it to grams and weigh your jewelry. Then multiply the grams by the number from step 3 and you will have your gold value!

Or bring your jewelry to us and we will give you your gold value hassle free!
